About This Project

Santa Maya Sunuwar lost her husband to liver problems.  Because of her poor financial condition and remote location, her husband could not get proper treatments, which ultimately proved to be fatal for him and tragic for her family. Mother of 3, Santa Maya lives in a small hut that she built after her house was destroyed by the massive earthquake of 2015.

When we arrived to handover goats as a part of our mission of empowering single women in rural areas, Santa Maya was busy with her household chores. We were offered local rice beer as a welcoming drink.  Located in a very remote and hilly region, the crops she grows in her field are not enough to support her family of three. She works for others, making as little as 70 cents a day. As most of the work is seasonal, sometimes it is hard to find a job even for such minimal pay.

With the help of our goat farming project, Santa Maya wants to make enough money so she can enroll all three of her children in the local school. She is committed to turn her life around. We wish you all the best Santa Maya didi..
